Goodwill Issues Plea for Donations of Clothing
and Other Household Items
With the cooling temperatures, more and more shoppers turn to Goodwill for their purchases, increasing the demand for donated items. Currently, donations of clothing such as jeans, tops, jackets, shoes and children's wear, as well as unneeded household items, are desperately needed to help Goodwill fulfill the needs of the community.
Last year over 24,000 people with disabilities and disadvantaging conditions received services from Goodwill Industries of Central Florida. Over 4,000 persons were placed in meaningful jobs in our community. The programs and services that Goodwill offers are funded by net revenues from Goodwill"s retail stores. All services are provided free of charge to participants.

Donations of clothing and household goods are an integral part of Goodwill's success. For ways to make a financial donation or include Goodwill in your estate, please view our Ways to Give web page, where we have outlined the various donation methods. Goodwill now operates 25 stores and 2 attended donation centers in the Central Florida area. Revenue raised from the sale of donated goods in these stores is channeled directly into employment and training programs that help people to work. On average, 90% of every dollar Goodwill spends is for a program-related expense.
Additionally, Goodwill has been GREEN since the day we opened our doors in 1959. We recycle approximately 18 million pounds of unusable donated items allowing us to serve more people in our community. We also rank in the top 12 Goodwill organizations in the world with regards to the efficiency of our operations, and the amount of money we send back into our community through our rehabilitation programs.
Although Goodwill does not have a home pick-up service, you can help us fulfill our mission by shopping or donating to the Goodwill store or attended donation center nearest you.

Goodwill to Recycle Computer Donations
Each year, tens of millions of outdated or non-working computers and other electronic products such as monitors, printers, scanners, and fax machines are discarded by individuals and corporations. Goodwills all over the country are proactively creating solutions for the mounting surplus of computers, monitors and other electronic items they receive - more than 200,000 computers alone are donated each year.
Goodwill Industries of Central Florida is embarking on a new program to de-manufacture non-working equipment into recyclable components, in an effort to combat rising landfill disposal costs. At the same time, Goodwill's job training and career services are being expanded through positions in this new venture, and new jobs are being created for people in the Central Florida area. Additionally, revenue will be generated through the resale of the computer equipment, which in turn will help to fund vocational programs for people with disabilities and disadvantaging conditions in our community.
