DONATE MOVEMENT

Giving household items that are no longer needed to Goodwill is a great way to make room for new things. When you decide to donate to Goodwill, you are making a positive impact on your local community and the planet.

Goodwill Industries International recently launched the "Donate Movement" to educate people about the difference Goodwill donations make to local communities everyday. Your donation to Goodwill can help your friends and neighbors find jobs, earn paychecks, support their families and become independent -- all of which help strengthen the community in which you live.

When you donate, you are also promoting environmental sustainability by allowing others to reuse and repurpose items you no longer need. Donations mark the vital first step in making sure Goodwill can provide job training programs and support services to people in your community.

The "Donate Movement" starts with you. Join Goodwill in donating responsibly for your community and the environment.

For ways to make a financial donation or include Goodwill in your estate, please view our Ways to Give web page, where we have outlined the various donation methods. Goodwill now operates 25 stores and 5 attended donation centers in the Central Florida area. Revenue raised from the sale of donated goods in these stores is channeled directly into employment and training programs that help people to work. On average, 90% of every dollar Goodwill spends is for a program-related expense.

We recycle approximately 18 million pounds per year of unusable donated items allowing us to serve more people in our community. We also rank in the top 12 Goodwill organizations in the world with regards to the efficiency of our operations, and the amount of money we send back into our community through our rehabilitation programs.

Although Goodwill does not have a home pick-up service, you can help us fulfill our mission by shopping or donating to the Goodwill store or attended donation center nearest you.

Goodwill Makes It Easy to Be Green!

DID YOU KNOW that Goodwill can help with the recycling of your obsolete or non-working electronic products?

As a leader and pioneer of the “reduce, reuse, and repurpose” practice, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida has partnered with Dell, Inc., in their new and innovative Dell Reconnect program. This venture makes it easy for our community to be environmentally responsible with their unwanted working and non-working computers and other electronic equipment.

This new endeavor diverts these items from area landfills, helps create green jobs for people in need of work, and the revenue from the recycled computer equipment supports Goodwill’s job training and employment services.

It’s easy for you to dispose of your unwanted computers and their parts, laptops, keyboards, and even cell phones. Just drop off your items at any of our Goodwill stores or attended donation centers throughout Central Florida. Additionally, Goodwill destroys all hard drives and memory storage components, so there are no worries about confidential information.

Taxes and Your Donation

Donating to GoodwillFederal law permits Goodwill donors to claim tax deductions for many financial contributions and for donated clothing and household items in good, used condition or better.

If you're unsure whether your item qualifies for a tax deduction, then consider this: if you would give it to a relative or friend, then the item is most likely in good condition and is appropriate to donate.

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service requres donors to value their items when filing their tax returns. To help guide you, Goodwill Industries International has compiled a list of commonly donated items. This valuation guide assumes the donated items are in good condition. Please note that these are estimated values.
